It has been a considerable adjustment from making very small, technically creative pictures of great paintings, where the choice of subjects and arrangement of forms are not mine, to large oil paintings which are expressions of my own ideas and feelings.

I am not a surrealist, I have always seen my painting as part of a spiritual journey. This is not necessarily with the choice of overtly religious subjects, but in the level of concentration and absorption needed for clarity of vision, which is akin to meditation.

Whereas my early pictures were psychologically informed, I now turn to more mystical ideas.
